How to Get Your Boss on Board for a Weekly Flower Delivery

Posted by Suzie Canale on Mon, Mar 12, 2018

So, you’ve been at the same office job for a while now and the gig is a pretty good one.  You can’t really complain earning a decent salary, hired by an okay boss, working in a clean environment and having co-workers who are congenial for the most part.  Career wise, things are going well and for the most-you’ve got everything you really want with the exception of one tiny perk… The entire office is devoid of any flower arrangements…

Why is this a big deal?  Well, as you may have already learned from previous blog posts, regular exposure to fresh blooms provide a wide array of benefits both in physical and mental terms.  This means that choosing to elect a regular, standing order from a local florist will likely heighten the moods and progress of employees thus increasing the company’s overall productivity.  If you look at things this way-it seems like a no brainer, right?

administrative_day_flowers.jpg

Unfortunately, many businesses feel as though a vase of flowers is not worth the cost of investment even though most of the top Fortune 500 companies use plants and flowers in many of their headquarters to positively affect their staff.  In some circumstances, business owners do not believe that the theory holds any substantial value and instead prefers to think of a weekly flower arrangement as a waste of financial revenue. Although this attitude can prove difficult to turn around, it’s not completely impossible…

If you find yourself in this predicament, I have a few tips to turn the tables on the importance of office floral design so that you can do some serious convincing to whoever is in charge.  Study these top reasons why flowers can be of value in the office and give him/her a presentation of the facts. When you are finished, slip a reputable florist’s business card under their door and hope for the best.  If the outcome proves dim, revisit the idea in another few months.

  1. Flowers heighten positive moods by using their different scents and colors.
  2. Flowers generally increase the brain’s ability to problem solve.
  3. Flowers can propel new levels of creativity just by being within the same vicinity.
  4. Flowers are capable of lowering anxiety and in turn, foster feelings of relaxation.
  5. Flowers are a great source of conversation, which can spawn a greater communication flow between coworkers.
  6. Flowers tell employees that you care about them and want them to be happy.
  7. Flowers make a space more appealing, providing a nicer environment to work in.

Valentine's Day Essentials in Boston

Posted by Suzie Canale on Thu, Jan 26, 2017

If you’re planning on celebrating with a special someone this February 14th, you’re going to have to do a little planning to make sure you have the essentials.  No matter what she says, she’ll be expecting something, some sort of hint that reveals how much you care so don’t blow it!  There’s no need to spend the entire contents of your wallet or try to pull a rabbit out of your hat to impress her if you strategize beforehand keeping in mind thoughtfulness and romance.  Focus on her individual qualities, likes/dislikes and personality and you should have a good feel of what your holiday gifting should be.  If you’re not sure where to begin, take a look at this checklist to keep you on track and ready to celebrate Valentine’s Day.

BLACKPEARL2.jpg

  1. Plan a special evening, whether it’s at her favorite restaurant or simply dining in at home.  If you are going to head out for the night, make sure to make your reservations well in advance (at least three weeks) because bistros, cafes and fine dining locations will all be frantic since it is the busiest day of the season for them.

Top Five Boston Restaurants for Valentine’s Day:

a.) Mooo

b.) Sophia's Grotto

c.) Menton

d.) Delfino's

e.) Ruth's Chris

If you’re planning on staying in, be sure to buy your ingredients a couple of days in advance to avoid running out of the essentials because yes- you’ll be the one who does all of the cooking!  Pick up a bottle of wine and select a menu that you know she’ll flip over.  If you really           want to romance her, DO THE DISHES!

  1. Grab a card.  It’s the easiest and least expensive way to tell her you love her.   Hallmark isn’t just a multi-billion dollar company for nothing-they know their stuff!  Browse the stationary section of a CVS and read through the options to see whether a funny or lovey-dovey card is going to fit best for your relationship.  If you really want to get creative, find an old photograph of the two of you and glue it to a piece of construction paper folding it in half.  This is a sweet gesture of how your love has grown and will most likely remain in her keepsake box for years to come.
  2. Don’t be a bozo- ORDER FLOWERS!  Gift with a box of chocolates and you’ve just made her holiday!  Unsure of what variety to pick up?  Here are some options but keep in mind her favorite blooms and preference of color.  Again, don’t wait to the last minute to order a bouquet since this is like Super Bowl Sunday for Boston florists!
  1. Red Roses
  2. White Lilies
  3. Orchids
  4. Black Pearl Roses
  5. Mixed Floral Bouquet.

Fun and Fancy Flower Delivery Trucks

Posted by Suzie Canale on Thu, Aug 25, 2016

In the floral industry, marketing is everything and that extends all the way through your flower displays to website design.  Everything has to be styled to enforce a desired presentation whether that means cultivating a particular branding style within arrangements or inventing a specific personality for your flower shop that sets you apart from the rest of the competition.  Creativity is the name of the game in this business so it’s imperative that marketing geniuses use their influence within every aspect of the company.  It’s simply not good enough to print pretty business cards or hang a jazzy sign in the storefront.  Within this economy, you’ve got to be willing to go the distance.  Even if it means taking your delivery transportation to the next level by decorating your vehicles in stylishly fun and funky ways!  It’s a great way to present your product as well as a fantastic opportunity to reel in new customers who notice your little added touch.  Check out these fabulously fun flower trucks, vans and bikes that are understandably grabbing the attention they deserve!

Bicycles are a very popular means to get where you’re going particularly in Holland.  If you think about it, financially it’s a brilliant way to go to save money on fuel and it will also keep your staff in great shape!  Most importantly pedaling flowers to their destination is both eye appealing and incredibly romantic…

This is another great idea, which is growing in popularity-flower painted food trucks converted into moving floral coolers!  You’ll guarantee customers fresh product as well as offer a fun way to pick out beautiful blossoms to passers by..

This is both a pretty approach to delivering flowers and a convenience for those visiting their loved ones in the cemetery.  You provide easy access to purchase grave bouquets without overwhelming others with a vast amount of options.  Simple, tasteful and useful are all the benefits of rigging up a contraption such as this one.

Do You Tip the Boston Flower Delivery Guy on Valentine's Day ?

Posted by Rick Canale on Tue, Feb 11, 2014

describe the image
Although many of our drivers at Exotic Flowers do not look like Ashton Kutcher, they do love their job. Our two senior drivers have been with us for more than 20 years combined.
Delivering flowers in Boston can be stressful, but also rewarding. What better way to share an emotion with someone than handing them a beautiful flower arrangement.
At Exotic Flowers our Boston flower buyers often ask us if they should tip the driver ? Please do. Our drivers do not expect gratuities, but they sure do appreciate them.
Thank you for sharing your Boston Valentine's Day with Exotic Flowers.

Comedienne @SherylUnderwood Tells Guys How to Send Flowers

Posted by Rick Canale on Tue, Jan 14, 2014

sheryl underwood " Every woman in the room loves flowers, Am I right ladies ?" - Sheryl Underwood

In her recent show 'Herlarious', comic Sheryl Underwood tells men there is a right way and wrong way to send flowers.

In her stand up act, Underwood states, "don't just send the flowers to the house where only I see the flowers. Send them flowers to my job, where the bitch I can't stand sees how I get down!"

This statement resonates. At Exotic Flowers in Boston, we always get feedback from recipients of flowers. Yes, women do love getting flowers at work. Getting flowers at work shows your co-workers that you care. So guys pay attention. Find out her address. If she works in Cambridge, find out which street. Also if you know if she works on the 40th floor of the John Hancock, your florist in Boston needs to know that to ensure a timely flower delivery.

Red Sox Go On Winning Streak with Flowers in the Dugout

Posted by Rick Canale on Wed, Jul 17, 2013

jose iglesias flowers resized 600 Who says flowers don't belong in baseball? Just ask Red Sox Jonny Gomes and Mike Napoli. They recently purchased flowers for their third base coach Brian Butterfield in Seattle. Since this purchase, the Red Sox have won four straight games and the flowers remained in the dugout for each game.

Infielder Jose Iglesias was given the charge of caring for the flowers and making sure they had safely made the trip from Seattle to Oakland.

On Friday, July 19th the Red Sox will host the Yankees at Fenway Park. I have already reached out to Napoli and Iglesias via twitter to offer Exotic Flowers in Boston delivery service to the dugout for the second half of the season.

Let's hope the flowers bring a stroke of World Series fortune to the Red Sox.

Flower Holidays, Occasions & Parties - Administrative Professionals Week Flowers

Administrative Professionals WeekA simple "Thank You" can go a long way to motivate employees and build loyalty. Administrative Professionals Week (APW) offers an ideal opportunity to show appreciation - and formally reinforce the value of an employee's contributions. The Society of American Florists offers this simple guide to help smart managers put the benefits of proper office etiquette to work during APW and year-round.

  • Use APW to find out what motivates your staff. Conduct a formal or informal survey asking support staffers what kinds of incentives they value most. This will show your commitment and give you hints on what forms of appreciation they would enjoy during APW.
  • Be open and direct. If you're not sure whether the members of your support staff want to be recognized during APW, just ask them.
  • Include everyone on your team. Make APW a time to thank all of your support staff - from secretaries to assistants to junior managers - for their contributions.
  • Make "thank yous" personal. Whether you're buying a gift or making lunch reservations, think about the individual. For example, if you're ordering flowers, ask your florist to create an arrangement that fits the recipient's personality. Is that person traditional? Outdoorsy? Dramatic?
  • Be specific. Tell the members of your support staff exactly what they did that you appreciate.
  • Treat APW like a New Year's resolution. Resolve to practice better office etiquette year-round to build your team's confidence and cohesion. Whether it's celebrated with a gift, flowers, or a group luncheon, APW is an opportunity to formally acknowledge the members of your support staff for their contributions throughout the year and wipe the slate clean of any forgotten thank yous.

Patriots' Day in Massachusetts from Boston to the Berkshires

Posted by Rick Canale on Mon, Apr 16, 2012

patriots day resized 600
As I keep going back and forth and with my colleagues today as why Massachusetts is celebrating a holiday, I felt inclined to explain a thing or two about Patriots' Day.
Patriots' Day is celebrated on the third Monday of every April in Massachusetts. The holiday commemorates the battles of Lexington and Concord of the American Revolution. Reenactments take place every year at Lexington Green. Even re-enactors of Paul Revere and William Dawes will make their historic rides all the while chanting 'The British are Coming,'. The Boston Marathon is also run on Patriot's Day every year, but it is not the reason for the holiday.
patriots day red sox resized 600
Every year the Red Sox schedule a game at Fenway Park at 11am start so that the end of the game will coincide with the runners passing at nearby Kenmore Square. The Patriot's Day game is a great Fenway tradition and a ticket to this game is almost as coveted as one to Opening Day.
red sox flowers resized 600As a florist in Boston, our flower delivery drivers may run into some closed street and road blocks. But some proper planning and experienced staff enable Exotic Flowers in Boston to deliver througout Massachusetts on Patriot's Day.

There is No Free Flower Delivery in Boston

Posted by Rick Canale on Tue, Feb 22, 2011

Free Flower Delivery in BostonJust like a pizza company who boasts free delivery, flower shops in the Boston area often mention free delivery. Keep in mind, just like the pizza that is sold for $15 delivered versus the $10 pizza plus delivery; flowers cannot be delivered free in Boston. Let the buyer beware of the florist who states 'delivery included' or 'free delivery to all Boston hospitals and funeral home,'.

It's basic arithmetic. How can a florist offer free delivery in Boston ? A driver makes an hourly wage plus benefits, gas is over $3 per gallon, a vehicle requires maintenance, excise tax, registration fees not to mention the scarcity of Boston parking and the ubiquitous Boston meter maids.

At Exotic Flowers in Boston, we charge a reasonable delivery charge from $5 to $12 depending on the location. Unfortunately, Exotic Flowers still loses money every year on deliveries. A swift warning to all Boston flower clients, a florist needs to charge for delivery or she will go out of business. If an established florist claims they are not charging you for delivery, that florist is making that revenue loss up in another hidden fee. Unfortunately, that hidden fee could be a less glamorous floral arrangement.

Boston Flower DeliveryDelivering flowers in Boston is a challenge. From crowded loading docks to post 9/11 security; traffic james and bad addresses; the life of a Boston flower delivery person can be stressful. The job is also quite rewarding. Recipients of flowers are often quite happy to see you. Drivers are often flagged by passers by with "for me ? you shouldn't have." You never know. Those flowers could be for you. If not, ask an Exotic Flowers driver for a business card.
