Boston Florist Learns from Six Flags New England

Posted by Rick Canale on Tue, Jun 28, 2011

bizarro

If you know me, then you can often find me working on Saturdays. No worries, it is retail. Once you sign on for retail, you know weekends are imperative to your business survival. Unfortunately, working Saturdays often infringes on family time. Spending time with my family is my favorite past time.

This past Saturday, June 25th, 2011 my wife Suzie was treated by her company to free passes to Six Flags New England. What a treat. Not only did my son refer to it as the best day ever, my entire family had a blast.

Not only did the trip recharge my batteries, but Six Flags New England also provided valuable business lessons that all retailers should aspire.

1. Recharge your batteries: It is good to get away, take time off and spend time with family. Family is why we work so hard and we can never lose sight of how much they mean.

2. Cleanliness: From the parking lot - to the theme park - to the staff; the grounds are immaculate. No litter anywhere. The restrooms are cleaned often. The staff is well groomed and polite. No gum chewing, cell phone chatting, odd piercings or visible tattoos. All the attributes we hope to see in a retail store, but rarely do.

3. Enthusiasm: the energy in Six Flags New England is infectious. The staff is high energy and young at heart. For the most part, the staff is young. But all staff members are upbeat. From the continued hawkers dribbling basketballs to the constant requests for High Fives. Six Flags England gets it. Human contact, smiles, energy, positivity and good music make an ordinary amusement park a great memory. Retail stores, are you listening ? Do you wonder why clients are taking their sales on line ? As retailers, we need to create positive memories.

4: Superman & Batman and the power of branding: Contrary to what one might think, Six Flags Amusement Parks are not owned by Universal Studios or Warner Brothers. Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck and Tweety walk throughout the park for photo opportunities, high-fives and autographs. Rides like Bizarro and the Gotham Gauntlet are gate attractions. Six Flags New England embraces their partners. They realize the importance of working with name brands and not for them. As Boston florists, Exotic Flowers works with Teleflora and FTD. Exotic Flowers is proud to offer FTD and Teleflora items in the Exotic Flowers design style. Exotic Flowers works closely with Teleflora so that spokesperson Faith Hill offers Boston flower buyers one of our best selling collections.

5: Fair compensation: Six Flags New England is not cheap. They charge a premium for parking, carnival games, tickets and food. Six Flags New England realizes that for a business to prosper, it must charge a fair price for its good services. Remember, 'Cheap products make for a cheap company.'

Posted by Rick Canale on Fri, Jun 24, 2011

Cars 2 - BostonFriday June 24th, 2011 Cars 2 is in movies theatres throughout the Boston area. On the heels of a smashign success with Cars, Lightning McQueen and his friends return to the big screen and head to Europe.

The staff at Exotic Flowers has a collective group of ten children under the age of 12, so our Boston flower crew is always abreast of the latest Pixar films to bring our offspring to. The movie theatres in Randolph, Dedham and Chestnut Hill are frequented most by the skilled floral artisans and personnel at Boston's Premier Florist.

The Cars movies series also brings to mind the fleet of vehicles at Exotic Flowers. Exotic Flowers in Boston boasts both General Motors and Toyota Vehicles in our fleet.  Exotic Flowers HummerThe flagship of the fleet is the Exotic Flowers H2 Hummer. The Hummer is a mainstay on American Legion Hwy and at the Boston Flower Exchange. You will also see the Hummer delivering flowers during the many New England snowstorms.

Exotic Flowers Toyota SiennaDoing the bulk of our deliveries are our Toyota Siennas. True work horses with a sleak design, the Siennas have far exceeded our expectations as Boston flower delivery vehicles.

Exotic Flowers Chevy Cargo VanUsed primarily as for functions and weddings, the Exotic Flowers Chevy Express Cargo Van can be a bit of a hindrance in Boston traffic.

Exotic Flowers 4RunnerThe newest addition to the fleet is the Exotic Flowers Toyota 4Runner SR5 drives through Boston with its own QR Code on the back. This flower truck can be seen often on the streets of West Roxbury and Chestnut Hill.

Boston Florist to Miss SAF Growth Solutions in Dallas

Posted by Rick Canale on Wed, Jun 22, 2011

Retail Florist

The 2011 SAF Growth Solutions is a three day conference for retail florists to explore current retail trends, consumer shopping preferences, how to find growth opportunities, attracting today's shoppers and increasing the average sale. The conference speakers and facilitators provide practical and proven ideas that improve productivity and increase profits.

Exotic Flowers in Boston has been a florist member in good standing with SAF (the Society of American Florists) for many years. Exotic Flowers believes in the importance of SAF's mission to represent the floral industry and promote its growth. One of SAF's goals is to share the joy of giving and receiving fresh flowers. Exotic Flowers in Boston has been doing just that for over seventy five years.

Boston BegoniasExotic Flowers is not only a proud member of SAF, but also Teleflora and FTD. Through these organizations Exotic Flowers can send flowers worldwide. Our participation in these organizations enables Exotic Flowers to serve not only our Boston residents, but flower buying clients throughout the world.

The staff at Exotic Flowers in Boston is a bit disappointed in missing the conference. Not only does the staff at Exotic Flowers learn from its colleagues; the staff at Exotic Flowers and Lombardi Florist in Roslindale network to build upon our online relationships.

For example, when a client in Boston sends flowers to Princeton, New Jersey; the client can breathe easy. Exotic Flowers has a great relationship with Monday Morning Flowers and the owners Kevin and Georgianne Vinicombe will treat Exotic Flowers' clients the same way they treat their own. These florist to florist relationships are the primary reason our clients choose worldwide delivery over companies like 1-800-Flowers and Justflowers.

What to send for Father's Day at Exotic Flowers in Boston

Posted by Rick Canale on Fri, Jun 17, 2011

Father's Day Flowers BostonOf course Father's Day does not have the cache or exposure of Mother's Day. Father's Day is Sunday, June 19th. Father's like everyone else appreciate being thought of and appreciated. Whether you say 'thanks dad' or we appreciate everything you do. It is also nice to shower your dad with gifts too. After all, he has been a shoulder to cry on; a guy who freely gives you more $ than you ask for and even changed a diaper or two along the way.

At Exotic Flowers in Boston, we always suggest fresh flowers as being the best gift to receive. Men appreciate receiving flowers. The old fashioned theory of men not liking them is out the window. Men like flowers and men like to receive flowers.

If you are still hesitant to send flowers, the staff at Exotic Flowers Boston has come with some great gift ideas as well.

From, the Garden Center at Exotic Flowers in Roslindale on American Legion Highway; Exotic Flowers offers your dad is very own herb garden. If your dad likes to cook or grill, this item is ideal for him.

Herb Garden Boston

For a gift that’s both fragrant and utilitarian, send a selection of real herb plants in a galvanized bucket. With fresh sage, peppermint, rosemary, basil and more, it will add taste to any kitchen – and a lovely touch to any décor.

If your dad, brother or uncle is not much of a cook and enjoys indulging himself on other's cooking; we have our Take Me Out to the Ballgame gift basket for Father's Day. Father's Day Gift Basket Boston

Dads, and Red Sox fans of all ages will think you're an MVP when you send this winning basket. Full of ballpark favorites and more, perfect for a picnic or a pick-up game in the park. You'll score a home run with this yummy basket that includes a real baseball, of course.

Peanuts, pistachios, Cracker Jacks, three good old-fashioned root beer or Sam Adams if you choose are teamed up in this basket.

During our time as the Offical Florist of the Boston Red Sox, we picked up some cool artifacts along the way. For the Dad who has everything and loves the Red Sox, we have a real base used in the 2007 World Series. Red Sox Game Used Base

What more could you ask for ? A real game used base from the 2007 World Series between the Boston Red Sox and Colorado Rockies. This is a true piece of history. This base comes from game 2 of the 2007 World Series at Fenway Park. The Red Sox won this game 2-1 at Fenway Park on 10/25/7.

And finally my favorite gift for new Dads or Grandfathers; The Land of Chocolate

Cosmos children's book.

 Children's Books Boston

** DELIVERED FREE ** The Land of Chocolate Cosmos is the first book in the Green Series dedicated towards educating and empowering children to change the world's environmental concerns. Within the first tale, a community is distraught when their magical natural resource, the chocolate cosmos flower, is overused and abused. With the help of Coco, the people learn how to recultivate and preserve the cash crop, sustaining the sweet enchantment of chocolate that once enriched the tow

Bruins Flowers

As the Boston Bruins approach game seven of the Stanley Cup Finals. The staff at Exotic Flowers wanted to share a few things that we love about the Bruins.

1. Old Time Hockey - the Bruins are synonomous with old time hockey. They play hard, appreciate their fans and bust ass on every play.

2. The Winter Classic Victory at Fenway Park. Bruins Winter Classic

perhaps one of the greatest Bruins games of all time in the most historic sports arena in the country.

3. Bobby Orr - not only for his hockey heroics, but also remaining in Boston and becoming a key citizen in our community.

4. Bourque & Neely - they were the cornerstone of the Bruins for years. It is sad they never won the Cup, but they are as a big a part of this team as any player. Ray Bourque and Cam Neely are what the Boston Bruins are all about.

5. The 2010-2011 soon to be Stanley Cup Champion Boston Bruins. Their dedication and teamwork are a model for all Bostonians and what we should aspire to.

The Next Chapter Begins at Exotic Flowers in Boston

Posted by Rick Canale on Thu, Jun 02, 2011

Exotic Flowers Improper Bostonian

For the past few months, Exotic Flowers has been buzzing about its next chapter. On June 1st, 2011 the next chapter at Exotic Flowers became reality. The next chapter at Exotic Flowers is all about the evolution of Boston's Premier Florist.

Exotic Flowers in Boston can trace its history back over seventy years to its flagship store and design studio on American Legion Highway in Roslindale. American Legion Highway stretches from Blue Hill Avenue in Dorchester to Hyde Park Avenue in Hyde Park and the highway traverses Mattapan and Roslindale along its path. Exotic Flowers began at 609 American Legion Highway and remains at this location today.

In the early 20th century, Marie Russo Canale's parents immigrated from Ponza Italy and opened their flower shop A.Russo and sons on the very location we remain today. At that time, Lombardi Florist was a big player on the Boston flower scene and was only steps away at 599 American Legion Highway.

About 1944, Arnold 'Sonny' Canale's parents dropped him off at Lombardi Florist to find work. He remained there for years as an apprentice floral designer, grower, and nurseryman. In 1957, Sonny bought Lombardi Florist and in 1959 married Marie Russo and merged the two floral enterprises.

Exotic Flowers print ads

In 1993, Lombardi Florist adopted the name Exotic Flowers as its primary signature. Of course we still operate under both names, and our long time clients still know us as Lombardi Florist. In 1994, a satellite location opened in Boston's South End and remained at 2 Dartmouth Street for seven year. During this time, Exotic Flowers was a primary player on the national flower scene going head to head with large volume flower brokers like FTD, 1800flowers, NationalFlora and America's Florist.

Exotic Flowers has always remained true to its roots by having operational greenhouses on the property in Boston as well as a year round garden center which sells outdoor plants, pumpkins, and Christmas trees. In 1995, in order to to stretch our reach, Exotic Flowers opened a full service florist and garden center on route 3A in Cohasset. The Cohasset flower shop remained there for over ten years.

In 2001, Exotic Flowers opened at the greenhouse at Faneuil Hall Marketplace. A three thousand square foot visual masterpiece in the heart of Boston, Exotic Flowers beautified the historic site for ten years. Exotic Fresh Flowers Ad

Exotic Flowers remains committed to beautifying Boston, its residents' and employees' lives. Our flower deliveries enrich hundreds of Bostonians lives daily.

As we embark on the next chapter; Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Direct Mail, QR Codes, face time will all be prevalent our every day operations. We already have a QR code, a floralApp, delivery confirmations, worldwide service and World Champion appeal. We look forward to serving for the next 75 years. Thank you, the next chapter is going to be great.
