The New England Patriots' Garden Grows

Posted by Rick Canale on Thu, Sep 07, 2017

Last season, we adopted Trey Flowers as our favorite Patriot. Flowers not only excelled throughout the season, but made a crucial sack in the Super Bowl. Flowers appreciated our support and this autograph photo can be seen in our flower shop in Roslindale.

Our staff memebrs could be seen all fall and winter wearing Trey Flowers Patriots hoodies. TREY MARQUIS FLOWERS.jpg This season the the Patriots garden has grown. The Pats acquired special teams player Marquis Flowers last week. We now have another player to show our support to. Hopefully Marquis will bloom in New England like Trey.

Super Bowl 2017 Inspired Flower Arrangements

Posted by Suzie Canale on Tue, Jan 31, 2017

Football fans are getting ready for their favorite day of the year next Sunday, the ultimate showdown between the New England Patriots and the Atlanta Falcons!  Hosted in Houston, Texas within NRG Stadium, people are on the edge of their seats to find out who will win the 51st annual sporting event that is sure to cause quite a commotion since Tom Brady has yet to be defeated by the southern team.  Another reason to stay glued to the TV is to watch how the quarterback yields his revenge after being suspended for the first four games of the season.  Experts are predicting a spitfire competition to see who will be the recipient of the Lombardi Trophy so be sure to plan ahead with food, décor and of course, flowers!

If you’re hosting this year’s Super Bowl and are thinking beyond making a vat of chicken wings and nachos for your guests to enjoy, you might want to think about a little décor to go along with the menu.   Team banners, t-shirts and color- coordinated settings are always fun but perhaps a few flower arrangements could be just what you need to spruce up your evening?  Here are a couple of samples for both Patriots and Falcon fans to select from and if you know you’ll have friends and family over who are routing for different teams, try a combination of the two to set an exciting Super Bowl mood!

New England Patriots

When coming up with design for floral pieces based on the Patriots, keep in mind that that there are three colors to play with: red, white and blue.  This gives you options of either combining the three or placing single colors in vases throughout the area you are entertaining.  Red roses, white hydrangea and blue delphinium are excellent varieties that will work well, either separate or together.  Other substitutes can also include red gerbera daisies, white phlox or blue dyed pom-poms.

Atlanta Falcons

The Atlanta Falcons also have a similar color scheme going which will work really well if you’re planning to create both for your party.  Featuring again red and white hues, you can easily implement white daisies and red carnations for centerpieces for a festive yet inexpensive presentation.  This team jersey also has black woven into the fabric, which can be interesting if you can find black millet, black roses or black calla lilies to incorporate within the bouquets.

New England Clam Chowder Recipe

For all of you football fans getting ready for Sunday’s big game, here’s a sure fire hit to add to your menu of tailgating foods!  Authentic to the New England region and delicious to boot, this recipe is both easy and quick to cook up for the big game day.   Try this New England Clam Chowder soup for your friends and family and get ready to cheer on the Patriots!

4 Red Potatoes                                                          3 Tbsp Flour

½ Gallon of Half and Half Cream                            4 Tbsp of Butter

2 Bottles of Clam Juice                                              1 Tbsp of Dried Rosemary

4 lbs of Clams                                                                        1 Cup of Chopped Parsley

2 Celery Chopped Stalks                                          Salt

1 Yellow Chopped Onion                                          White Pepper

Melt the 4 Tablespoons of butter in a large pot over medium heat.  Add the chopped onion and celery to the pot and sauté until softened.   Slowly add flour creating a roué, which will start to thicken the mix of vegetables and butter.  Once the flour has been soaked up, slowly add in the cream taking rests to stir the chowder.

Take a knife and pierce the red potatoes, then place them in a microwave for 4 minutes.  Slice the lightly softened potatoes into rough cubes and add them into the pot.

In a separate pan, boil the 2 bottles of clam juice.  Place the clams in the heated liquid and cook on medium heat for 5 minutes, afterwards straining the excess juice and adding the cooked clams to the chowder.

Add the 1 Tbsp of rosemary and cup of chopped parsley to the pot then season with salt and pepper to taste.  The chowder will thicken and the temperature should be dropped from medium to low for approximately 40 minutes.  Serve piping hot!

Will 1800Flowers Suspend Its NFL Sponsorship ?

I have always admired Jim Mccann's marketing gimmicks at 1800flowers. He is one of the major players in the floral industry who steps in with new ideas and fun ones too. Recently, 1800flowers partnered with Visa and the NFL and created a football holiday known as Footballentine's Day. The idea is to send flowers to your loved one, because you are stuck at the TV watching the game. As if this gesture would placate your loved one for your lack of attention. It is is great to see these NFL Stars get in touch with flowers though. At Exotic Flowers in Boston, we even pitched Tim Tebow to endorse our products.

Unfortunately for Visa and 1800flowers, the NFL is surrounded by controversy and does not need commercials touting guys to send flowers to women while they watch football. After all, more than 55% of women watch football.

Hopefully, 1800flowers steps up and donates a percentage of this bouquet's sales to combat domestic violence.

If you get a chance, watch Eric Decker step up to the design bench and design a one of a kind floral arrangement. It is worth it. Likes a lot of Mccann's advertising, we pause and take notice. The floral industry needs more commercials.

On Sunday January 22nd, 2012 the New England Patriots will host the Baltimore Ravens for the NFL AFC Championship at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts. The winner of this conference game will head to the Super Bowl in Indianapolis, Indiana. Fans are going to liquor stores to load up on beer and ringing up their local pizzerias and buffalo wing havens for a game time feast.
While fans will also be calling their book makers to seek profit from the outcome, the staff at Exotic Flowers in Boston will be wagering an item a little more interesting than cash.
