Exotic Flowers Boston Joins Nationwide Effort to ‘Petal It Forward’

Posted by Rick Canale on Wed, Oct 24, 2018

Local Business Spreads Smiles and Stress Relief, Two Bouquets at a Time

Roslindale, MA, (October 24, 2018)– Today, Exotic Flowers is joining floral industry businesses in more than 400 cities nationwide to surprise unsuspecting passersby in Roslindale with two free flower bouquets each – one to keep and one to give to a friend, family member, colleague, or even a stranger. The random-acts-of-kindness effort -- called Petal It Forward and organized by the Society of American Florists (SAF), of which Exotic Flowers is a member -- is designed to help people start their day with more smiles and less stress. The effort illustrates new research from the University of North Florida (UNF) that shows living with flowers reduces stress.

“Petal It Forward is the floral industry’s way of giving back,” said Jennifer Sparks, SAF’s Vice President of Marketing, citing the nationwide effort was purposefully planned for a Wednesday to help the mid-week slump. Rick Canale of Exotic Flowers wanted to be a part of the nationwide mood-boosting effort, and make a difference in the community. “We have been in this location for 88 years and we want to help make someone's day in the community,” said Canale. “Through the positive effects of flowers, we hope to make someone’s day brighter, and provide a much-needed moment of calm amidst the hectic pace of life,” he added.

The research findings on flowers and stress relief, and the need for mood-boosting gestures, seem timely: A survey by Wakefield Research in July showed that 68 percent of Americans experience stress weekly, and 32 percent report feeling stressed daily. Women are even more affected, with 25 percent reporting feeling stress multiple times a day.

Canale says the original idea behind Petal It Forward’s ‘keep one, share one’ concept, which started in 2015, came after looking at statistics that showed while 80 percent of people reported receiving flowers makes them happy, even more (88 percent) said that giving flowers makes them happy. “We want to give people the chance to experience both,” said Canale.

In addition to the new research on stress, previous behavioral studies conducted by Rutgers and Harvard scientifically demonstrate the positive impact flowers have on emotional well-being. Where Have All The Roslindale Flower Shops Gone ?

Posted by Rick Canale on Tue, Oct 16, 2018

In the past couple of years, Boston residents may have noticed a change in the local florist landscape. Roslindale's Square Dandelions Flower Shop closed over a year ago and both Louie the Florist and Calisi's Flowerland have closed their doors as we.

At Exotic Flowers, we are going to miss our colleagues. We are firm believers in the rising tide and feel that the more flower shops, the more awareness.

Baseball Treasure Introduces Collectible Baseball Coins Officially Licensed by MLB and MLBPA

TREASURE_TWITTER

BOSTON, MA - MAY 22, 2018 – Baseball Treasure, a company that mints MLB licensed collectible coins featuring 30 current Major League Baseball stars, today announced the introduction of collectible baseball  coins in copper, silver and gold.

For the first time ever, a star from every Major League team has been minted in a one-ounce copper coin presented in a full color cardboard mount. Each coin displays the player's name, position, and etched portrait on the front (or heads), and an action image with a  2017 highlight on the back (or tails). Blind packs retail at $6.99 each.

In addition to the 30-coin copper base set for 2018 Baseball Treasure MLB Coins, collectors can also hope for the rare chase coins. The odds of obtaining a .999 fine Silver version (a $50 retail value) is one in 432, while the chances of getting a gold coin (a $2,000 retail value) is one in 21,600.

The logo and packaging are designed by Todd Radom, an independent graphic designer specializing in branding for professional sports franchises and events. His work includes the official logos for Super Bowl XXXVIII and the 2009 NBA All Star Game, as well as the graphic identity for Major League Baseball’s Washington Nationals and Los Angeles Angels.

“Baseball Treasure offers the thrill of the chase’,” said co-founder Rick Canale. “With Baseball Treasure, we have added the excitement of including the gold and silver coins. You never know who or what coin you might get.”

Officially licensed by MLB and the MLB Players Association, the coins will retail at $6.99 and are sold on the BaseballTreasure.com website, at sports memorabilia shops, Modell’s Sporting Goods, and at the New York Mets, New York Yankees, Philadelphia Phillies, Seattle Mariners, San Diego Padres and Washington Nationals gift stores. The coins will also be sold at the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum gift shop in Cooperstown and on the Hall of Fame’s website, www.mlb.com and www.fanatics.com

“What MLB liked about our product is the “blind pack” nature of it,,” said Baseball Treasure co-founder, Rick Canale.  “It’s the ‘thrill of the chase.’ You don’t know which player you are going to get. If you are in New York and opened a pack and got Mookie Betts, you might buy another one or try to trade it to get Aaron Judge.”

The BaseballTreasure.com website was designed by FanBrandz.com, which creates branding programs and logos for sports licensees, sponsors, broadcast partners, web designers and advertising agencies. With over 25 years working with league and team brand owners and their stakeholders, Fanbrandz knows what it takes for imagery that resonates with marketers and fans. A Thanksgiving Letter to our Clients

Posted by Rick Canale on Wed, Nov 22, 2017

" Gratitude can transform common days into thanksgivings, turn routine jobs into joy, and change opportunities into blessings." - William A. Ward
Dear friends,
Thanksgiving day is the unsung hero who lives in the shadow of black Friday and the subsequent holiday season. Wouldn't it be great if Thanksgiving reclaimed its crown as the most important holiday ? If you go anywhere these days, 'thank you' are magic words. So few people say it and the ones that do just say it because it is rehearsed.
This Thanksgiving, invite someone over who tends to stay alone. If they cannot leave the house, bring them a plate and spend twenty minutes with them. Your time is the greatest gift you can give someone.

TREY FLOWERS.jpg

Last season, we adopted Trey Flowers as our favorite Patriot. Flowers not only excelled throughout the season, but made a crucial sack in the Super Bowl. Flowers appreciated our support and this autograph photo can be seen in our flower shop in Roslindale.

Our staff memebrs could be seen all fall and winter wearing Trey Flowers Patriots hoodies. TREY MARQUIS FLOWERS.jpg This season the the Patriots garden has grown. The Pats acquired special teams player Marquis Flowers last week. We now have another player to show our support to. Hopefully Marquis will bloom in New England like Trey.

Why I Have Sun Parasol Mandevillas at Home

Posted by Rick Canale on Tue, Jul 25, 2017

DIPLODENA.jpg

My favorite to plant to bring home is the Sun Parasol Mandevilla. These have deep green foliage and grow vine like. I have three of these planters at my garage, another two at my front door, two hangers, three upright ones by my pool, another on my deck and yet another at the back door.

MANDEVILLA.jpg

Aside from their striking beauty, these plants are so easy to care. They flower from May to November. They love the sun and they like to be on the dry side. Believe it or not, you can go away for the weekend and they do not die. Not many other deck plants can take that type of abuse.

SUN PARASOL.jpg

These two urns at my front door have been encouraged to grow wild and use no trellis or bamboo stakes to train the vines. Available at our Roslindale location, we offer many sizes in white, crimson, pink and yellow.
