Exotic Flowers in Boston

Recently, actress Kirstie Alley returned to television with an enjoyable sitcom aptly named Kirstie. I have always been a fan of the star and this show does not disappoint. One of my favorite things about the show is the decor, especially the flowers. The arrangement pictured above showcases yellow roses and cymbidium orchids. The flower arrangements are spectacular and appear to be an integral part of this New York City broadway actress' apartment.

The video clip above is the Christmas episode. The set designer does an amazing job of pink poinsettia plants, an over the top Christmas tree, a ginger bread mansion, along with orange roses, green hydrangeas and bowls of Christmas ornaments.

In one episode, super star John Travolta makes a guest appearance. Undeterred from the star power on stage, the set designer fills Kirstie's bedroom with amazing florals such as the mound of indigo hydrangea as seen above.

My two favorite flowers were chosen for the table centerpieces at the 2014 Golden Globe Awards. An accent of cymbidium orchids lends its beauty to the show stopping bouquet of roses. Peach, yellow, and orange roses served as the centerpiece at the awards dinner. With all the black clothing and amber table setting this floral arrangement really popped off the table and illuminated the room.

Miss Golden Girl 2014 is shown carrying a eye popping presentation bouquet of hydrangea and Movie Star roses. It is no coincidence that this LA florist uses the same lime green tissue paper that we use at Exotic Flowers in Boston to really make the flowers 'pop'.

Tim Tebow could sell ice to the eskimos. What better spokesperson than the stud quarterbacK ? Yes of course Tom Brady would be a great choice, but he is a little busy selling Uggs. Think about it. Tim Tebow is sensitive, caring and attractive. Tim appeals to all markets. He even cries. Sensitive guys send flowers. Sensitive guys could really sell flowers. Florists have used NFL hulks before to pitch flowers. Rest in peace Hall of Famer, Merlin Olsen.

Do you remember where you were when Elvis died ? I do. I was only six years old and my family was pulling into the parking lot at the Cape Ann Marina in Gloucester to go on our boat. Even this six year remembers how huge a shock that was. Of course, a new generation will think of Michael Jackson's death. I was picking up a pizza at Bertucci's in Brookline when I heard that news. When a King dies, the world takes notice. 

More than 50,000 fans walked more than a mile to pay tribute to Elvis on his funeral on August 18th, 1977.  Joe DiMaggio and Marilyn Monroe remain one of the most famous couples in history. Eventhough their marriage lasted only nine months, DiMaggio and Monroe's relationship is legend. Joe's affection for Marilyn was always visible in many gestures. Seven years after their marriage, we can see evidence of his affection by this New York florist's receipt for two dozen roses. Forty years later this same order would be $200. I did try and see if Goldfarb Flowers of New York was still in business, but had no luck.

DiMaggio who was known to be serious, private and reserved rarely let others know his many acts of kindness for Marilyn. Upon her tragic death, DiMaggio even tended to all the details of her funeral. At her funeral, Joe's affection was again shown with flowers, below is a picture of a funeral heart of roses for Marilyn.

Did you ever play the game padiddle/perdiddle ? The beauty of the night time car game is a way to compete with friends during long or short drives. The Christmas tree car game is very similar but you can play both day and night. 

Start your own holiday tradition with the Christmas tree car game. I had never heard of the game or even played before last year. My son and wife introduced me to this fun and festive game. 

During the holidays Christmas trees can be found from Boston to Belchertown. On my twenty minute commute to work at Exotic Flowers in Roslindale, I pass by five places who sell Christmas trees; including Louie the Florist, Exotic Flowers, Walk Hill Florist, Allandale Farm and Flowerland. 

The Christmas Tree Car Game can be played with two or more players. All one needs to do is see a car on the road with a Christmas tree on its roof and call out 'tree,'. A running tally can be kept all month long. Right now I have four points, my son has nine and my wife has six. What a great way to start your own Christmas tradition. 

You can even have a point system if you know your Christmas trees. You could offer bonus points for living Christmas trees or snow flocked trees. Like padiddle where a police car is huge bonus points, how about huge points for a double Christmas tree car or a game ender if you see the Griswold family Christmas tree.
